Position Summary
Reporting into the Chief Development Officer, the Vice President (VP) Medical Affairs will be tasked with leading the U.S. Medical Affairs organization focused on maximizing patient benefit from the company’s therapies through ensuring safe and appropriate use. The VP plays a key role in the clinical and commercial development of the company’s products with purview over strategic guidance of activities related to KOL relationships, company sponsored non-registration trials, publications and investigator sponsored trials. In addition, the VP will work closely with the leadership of the company’s Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial and Compliance functions worldwide to support optimal life cycle management of all products.


Key Responsibilities
•    Collaborate with Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial and Compliance teams to set the strategic medical direction for marketed and pipeline therapies. Build the evolution of the global and US business strategy to expand on the increasing number of assets and impact to the overall organization. 
•    Generate and foster relationships with key opinion leaders (KOL) to support growth and development of the portfolio, pipelines, and unmet patient needs. 
•    Build, coach and lead the Medical Affairs team to support a growing product portfolio. The team will provide KOL outreach, manage Investigator Initiated study selection and execution, and provide appropriate and complete responses to requests for medical information, both on and off label. All activities will be carried out in strict compliance with all federal regulations. 
•    Oversee a team of direct reports, including medical communications, medical information, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), and field medical. 
•    Set up publication strategy and oversee management of publication planning and execution to ensure that all data on company products generated by company or investigator sponsored studies is publicly presented in an appropriate and timely fashion and in a fair and balanced manner. 
•    Oversee management of funding for Continuing Medical Education (CME), grants, and sponsorships to ensure that funds are allocated appropriately to activities consistent with the clinical development and commercial objectives of the business, and that review and approval processes are in place to maintain strict compliance with all federal regulations. 
•    Oversee the management of Investigator Sponsored Studies to ensure that the strategy is clearly defined and consistent with the clinical development strategy objectives for each product, and that appropriate processes are in place for review, approval, management, and support of studies while maintaining investigator independence. 
•    Responsibility and accountability for the financial management and reporting requirements for Medical Affairs function. 
•    Serve as a role model for upholding compliance standards, ethics, company policies with a patient-first mindset.  


Basic Qualifications
•    Advanced degree such as Masters, PhD or PharmD in life sciences or related field (MD is preferred)
•    15 or more years of experience in Medical Affairs or relevant fields (MSL, health economics, epidemiology), and development of publications within assigned therapeutic areas
•    Expert knowledge of planning and executing medical strategies, complemented by strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences effectively.
•    Strong track record of collaboration with Commercial and Compliance organization
•    Experience managing multidisciplinary teams or highly skilled professionals
•    Ability to work cross functionally with all levels to perform job duties. 
•    Proficient in the use of desktop applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point
•    Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams of highly skilled professionals
•    Proven ability to manage vendors, consultants and contractors
•    Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills
•    Empathetic and collaborative team player with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset 
•    Strong business acumen, with the ability to balance patient needs with organizational goals
•    Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time. 


Preferred Qualifications
•    MD degree or similar advanced technical degree highly preferred
•    Experience in ophthalmology, neurology or related discipline
